I was bringing an old DL585 G2 back to life as a Windows Hyper-V 2012 R2 Server and thought it would be a good idea to update all the HP firmware to the latest versions. HP Software Update Manager (HP SUM) recommend I update the System BIOS from "12/14/2009" to "05/02/2011" and I let it. Next reboot and I'm looking at the above.
Turns out you can revert to the old, good, backup ROM using the motherboard configuration switches. The HP post is here or you can search for "System Maintenance Switch" "recover backup System ROM". The short version is:
- Power down the server.
- Set positions 1, 5, and 6 on the system maintenance switch to "ON."
- Could be another combination on some models. Check your server doc.
- Power the server back on.
- Wait for the server to emit two long beeps.
- It will keep repeating the two long beeps until you power off.
- Power down the server.
- Set the system maintenance switches back to "OFF."
- Power up and keep your fingers crossed.
